Securing your own supply also increases energy security. If you’re less dependent on the grid, you’re less exposed to volatile prices and the risks of outages.

That’s all good news, not just for the bottom line, but also for the planet, because every kilowatt of solar you install will save about five tonnes of carbon emissions over the panels’ 25 year lifetime.

Flexible financing

We know that CapEx is not always available, so we offer a couple of alternatives to investing your own capital up-front.

We can arrange asset finance or hire purchase through our partnerships with some of the UK’s top financial institutions. Ecovision can also install and own the system, and you make monthly lease payments, or pay for the electricity through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

In some parts of the country there are grant schemes that pay part of the capital cost. We’ve worked with many of these and can guide you through the process from start to finish.

For each new project we look at your current usage profile and also look ahead to how that may change down the line. We’ll design a system that builds in a degree of future-proofing while optimising for where you are today.

We analyse your energy consumption, evaluate the site for size, aspect and irradiation levels, and crunch the numbers alongside data from relevant sites among the 18,000 installations we manage.

This gives you a detailed financial forecast for what your system will deliver.

It’s not just about the panels

We only use the highest quality components that have been well proven in the field. Being an independent company means we source our panels, inverters and mounting systems from the most appropriate manufacturer.

Beyond the action on the roof, we can integrate battery storage so excess generation is kept on-site and used when needed, rather than being exported to the grid. EV charging points can also be fitted, helping to cut another prime source of emissions.

Our technical and design teams are constantly on the lookout for new and evolving technologies, because they’re motivated to get the absolute maximum out of the available sunshine.

25 years of goodness

Our rooftop systems are designed to keep generating for 25 years. Once the initial investment is paid back (typically within four years) that’s pretty much free electricity whenever the sun’s up.

Every system needs a bit of TLC from time to time to keep it working at maximum efficiency. That’s what our commercial monitoring and maintenance services are for.

We keep an eye on all the systems we manage (18,000 of them at the last count) using a custom-built platform that alerts us to any faults or dips in performance.

If anything does go wrong, our engineers will be straight out to fix it. But we aim to pre-empt most problems with regular check-ups, panel cleaning, and even special measures to keep the pigeons at bay!

FAQs

How do you know if my roof is suitable?

We always carry out a site visit, although we can usually tell by looking at the location and orientation of the roof from Google Earth.

We also commission a structural assessment from an independent structural engineer to make sure the roof will handle the loads.

Do I need planning permission?

In the vast majority of cases, no. There are a few rare exceptions such as on listed buildings.

How long will the installation take, and how disruptive is it?

It usually takes us a couple of weeks to do the actual installation, depending on its size and complexity.

Ahead of that, our lead time is around eight weeks, because we need to get approval for the grid connection first.

There will be no disruption other than switching the building’s power off for an hour to make the final connection.

Can I get a refund of my deposit if the job can’t go ahead for any reason?

Yes. We will only charge for costs we’ve already incurred, such as the structural engineer’s fees.

How long is the warranty period?

Two years. During this time any defect is covered by the warranty.

What’s covered by the workmanship warranty?

Our workmanship warranty covers any fault. Ecovision will replace any faulty components completely free of charge.

After the warranty period finishes, many components are still covered by manufacturers’ warranties, but there would be a labour charge to repair or replace them.

Are the payment terms negotiable?

Yes, absolutely. We aim to agree terms that are balanced and equitable for both parties.

Is the annual generation figure guaranteed?

No, but the sun’s irradiance fluctuates year-on-year by less than 3% so we are confident in our forecasts.

We also monitor the system free of charge for the first 2 years in order to detect any drops in system generation so we can respond promptly to them.

Will the system generate power on a cloudy day?

Yes. How much depends on how thick the cloud cover, but solar panels don’t need direct sunlight to generate electricity, luckily for the UK!

Will a battery help?

It really depends on your consumption and energy use profile (what time of day energy is used). If you can provide us with half-hourly consumption readings we can provide an accurate forecast of the savings available – and let you know whether a battery would be a worthwhile investment.

How will I know if the system develops a fault or stops generating?

We monitor the system remotely and automatically detect any faults which cause a drop in generation. We do this free of charge during the warranty period.

You can also monitor the system yourself through a web browser or mobile app, as long as we can connect your inverters to the internet.

How will you access the roof if there’s a problem?

Fortunately, problems on the roof are very rare. When they do happen, we can usually access the roof via temporary scaffold.

What does kWp mean

It stands for kilowatt peak – it’s the peak power that a solar system will generate on a sunny day under direct sunlight.

What can go wrong with a solar PV system?

The commonest faults are with inverters, as they’re the only complex components.

Fortunately, inverters come with a minimum five-year warranty which can be extended to 10, 15 or even 20 years.

Can I view generation on an app?

We can usually connect your inverters to the internet and set you up with a mobile app or web browser to view your system’s generation.
